Healthy Living:  Getting Started

guide 1

Healthy living can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes.  Here’s what you can do to get started:

Eat a Healthy Diet
Eat whole-grain foods, vegetables and fruits more often and chose foods that are low in fat and salt (sodium).

Enjoy Being Active
Include 30 - 60 minutes of moderate exercise 4 to 7 days a week

Limit Alcohol Use
If you drink, drink only 1 - 2 drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks in a week for men and 9 in a week for women.  It is a good idea to skip a day every so often.

Live Smoke Free
Do not smoke and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke.
